Checa exceeds all expectations by topping time sheets in final test

Carlos Checa stunned his WSB rivals on the final day of testing at Phillip Island by setting the fastest time onboard his Alstare Ducati 1199 Panigale R. His leaderboard topping lap time is the first indication of the pace and potential of the all new Ducati. Checa’s pre –season testing has been a disaster due to poor weather and medical problems...

Not sure what a lot of that meant Hardlylean. How can I explain someone older, on a heavier bike and with less power on less radical tyres going faster than Rossi on the GP12? Evidently Checa is a quicker rider and it further enhances Rossi's inability to ride around issues. The monocoque obviously works as the stopwatch isn't lying.

Yep, I take it you think Max is better than Rossi because he beat Checa last year, I think Checa was 4th making a whole host of riders better...?? Honestly I get where you are heading but perhaps the cbbc site with some fun ks1/2 games is more suited to your theory..

Was Biaggi better than Rossi last year?

Not really a question is it? Biaggi displayed more speed, commitment and determination if that helps?

Thanks Ram,me,ola! a perfect example of the desperate lengths some folk go to.. Rossi was top Ducati last year, Max was top Aprilia the rest was down to the respective quality of the designers/championships.. Now that's a comparison....... of sorts. Reading won the championship last year they are 3rd bottom, in the relegation positions this year in the EPL..

6 manufactuers in the top 10, less than 1 sec between them. Some good Brits, 4(5) different nationalities of rider in the tp 10 Last year the winning margin was 0.5 points. Just hope Dorna don't ruin this series.

Good series, speaks for itself I reckon.

Don’t know about the times set by Rossi or Checa but to compare the time of different machinery is really naive. One is a fire breathing Motogp bike the other a tuned up street bike, the power delivery would be a lot smoother on a V twin road bike compared to a V4 race bike. The Moto GP duke has always been a tyre ripper in a race while the WSBK has always been the last to use its tyres so that might give you a clue on how easy it must be to ride quickly. For all the so called experts on here, think you need to do a bit of reading on chassis flex and geometry before you make yourself look like even bigger fools. Didn’t the old 912 hold the lap record around Donington for a few years? That would be when they raced 500 Grand Prix. A lower power engine would more than make up for a chassis short comings; stick a 2 litter Ford Escort engine in an Enzo and you could drive it on full chat at every corner. The carbon short chassis concept may work with a lower power engine of a different configuration but doesn’t mean it will work with a high power engine. They looked at a new chassis over the steel trellis because of the exact same principle.
