Filippo Preziosi has resigned from Ducati before he was due to start his new role as Director of R&D, citing poor health. Preziosi was the engineer in charge of the development of the Desmosedici MotoGP machine throughout the successful Casey Stoner era and also during the disastrous Valentino Rossi period. The Ducati statement reads in full: Borgo Panigale, (Bologna, Italy) 28 February 2013...

... there is more to an engine than just it's "V" angle. Just because it appears that Honda are also running the same engine layout, doesn't mean that Ducati/Preziosi were right. By all accounts the engine delivery is viscous and the electronics struggle to contain it, so any fundamental flaws in the chassis will be amplified.


Shame to see Preziosi go, because he obviously got a lot of things right.

..it had to come to this but, there were obviously some serious communication problems during Rossi's spell - as the new management has said - which is why Preziosi was replaced.

Whether Audi put the kybosh on Corse development while they were assesing Ducati pre-offer or, the race department had run out of ideas - as the meeting with Furusawa might suggest - with the Desmo V-Four lump seemingly a non-negotiable piece of the change required, don't really matter now for Phillipe.

The bottom line is..the CF monocoque bike had well documented issues, which have transferred to the new bike, and was treading water while the competition moved on.
Preziosi was in charge and Corse failed to deliver on the promise they would do anything to build a bike, that was capable of more than just inconsistent results in one riders hands..and he had to take the can.

 

One question to all the Rossi detractors and retro blinkered Ducati fanboi..

If the CF bike was so good and the Auminium beam frame a wrong turn to appease Valentino..why haven't they rolled it back out again?..or even recommissioned The Trellis?

V8 paddock news just in... Bad news for Stoner fans.....With all the fanfare with which even the pontif himself would of been proud, comes the news of the biggest anti climax in v8 super car history.....Casey Stoner crashes out on lap 12 of 20 of his debut race....can it get any more embarrassing for the 2x  ex motogp world champion.

A revolution is about to take place at Ducati, several reliable sources are reporting. The loss of Rossi was probably the final straw for Audi, the German car manufacturer deciding at that point that drastic measures would be needed to rectify the situation. The news had been intended to be broken after the Valencia tests have been completed, and Ducati spokespeople are still denying the truth of the reports. Filippo Preziosi is currently attending the race weekend, and will oversee the test efforts on Tuesday and Wednesday. The reports from Italy suggest that Preziosi is to be forced out of Ducati altogether, but it is unclear whether a new role will be found for the man behind all of Ducati's racing projects. One Alex.  Thats should keep all of the Rossi Haters quite (except for Brian the Brain)  As it said in the report.  Audi put a lot of effort into keeping Rossi, and why wouldn't they. He is still one of the best out there

Created a very good bike with some revolutionary ideas - that it was fundamentally flawed machine goes without saying when comparing to Japanese bikes and I reckon desperation towards the end lead to some wild and crazy concept that made the bike go backwards. I'm absolutely sure his intentions were always well meant but he seemed to lose the plot a bit........wish him all the best with his health.

Excellent question from Wosihound tho - if it was only Rossi who wanted to get the Duke a bit more 'japanese' then why didn't they just revert back to the frameless CF concept when he left if they think its the way forward?

it's a results driven business, he didn't get them and that left him vulnerable...it's a pity, 'cos looking at problems from a lateral perspective keeps it more interesting. But in the end the blinkered obsession with 90 degrees meant they were heading down a cul-de-sac. Audi have pioneered turbo deisel power in sportscar racing, they are a major world player......it could just be that HRCs stranglehold over the FIM is about to weaken...now that will be worth watching.
