you heard right SAR is being privatised. I left Culdrose  in 2009, about a year before the SAR was put out to tender, bids came in, we had you name them on board for meetings and briefings, 'someone' won the contract for Culdrose BUT a few months later it was all put on hold. Anomalies were found in the bidding system ie: 'someone' had inside knowledge in other words corruption.

A lot of the Navy guys left, one real good guy Tony Oliver has featured on the Highland rescue programme, I knew him and his brother who also worked on Culdrose as both are bikers. From what I understood Tony was a tad disillusioned by the whole privatising issue so he left the Navy to work for the coastguard agency.

SAR pilots are up there with the best trained in the world.  Because of its nature, only the military can train to that standard.  It would not be possible for a private company to train to that level as it would be too expensive so there is no way the private sector can provide crews with the same standard.  That will cost lives :-( 

You may be OK for a few years while there are fully-trained crews available that have retired from the Navy but what you gonna do when that generation has gone?
