Death crash policewoman resigns

A policewoman who caused a crash that killed a motorcyclist while talking on her phone has resigned. Collette Carpenter stepped down after the Crown Prosecution Services’ decision not to charge her was reported in the national press. Carpenter was talking on her phone when she pulled into the path of motorcyclist David Bartholomew, 54, an inquest heard. But the CPS...

One Rule For Them

It always strikes me as wrong that people in certain jobs, policing in this case, can escape disciplinary action by resigning. It's not just Ms Carpenter, it happens all the time, they jump before they are pushed and keep full pension rights etc. Where's the justice in that?

The questions the CPS has to answer for any case put before it are simple, is it in the public interest? and is there any chance of a conviction? The answer in the case of David Bartholomew would be "yes" to both. So the CPS are failing the victim and his family. Unfit for purpose is a phrase that springs to mind along with a lot more unprintable things.

Pigs that Don`t Care

What a shocking situation this is, if it was any other person than a biker then some action would have been taken.

It`s a statement on today`s world, people who should care Don`t.  Terrible

This is a poor outcome. There are no police findings and surely dismissal, not resignation is the penalty available. The PC involved in the death of a newspaper vendor had simply gone and joined another force. Walking away feeds the "one law for them" perception - both in regard to the fatal accident and to lying to the police. The coroner found she had repeatedly lied and misled the investigation. She appears to be escaping any legal sanction for this - no charge of misdemeanour in a public office, or obstructing police officers in the course of their duty etc. It's hard to believe a civilian would get away with that. @billysollocks: Special Constables have all the legal powers of their regular counterparts both on and off duty. Since 1 April 2007, specials can use their powers throughout the whole of England and Wales. If it walks like a police officer, talks like a police officer and at all times has all the powers of a police officer, we have a right to expect the same conduct as any other police officer.

What a Suprise ?

This is yet another of the many incidents that show that there is no such thing as a honest cop or a honest trustworthy system for dealing with dishonest cops

Any biker knows no such thing as a honest traffic cop exists ! there is not one imop that has not prosecuted some one on evidence that is not 100% true

i criticised our local traffic police force on a local forum and i got pulled for routine checks and breathalysers loads of times in the following months

no more needs to said

if there is a fighting fund for the family of this victim to fight the police for justice all bikers should give at minimum £5 as it could be you next

What an absolute farce, surely the fact she was on the phone, whether its on loudspeaker, hands free or whatever she was still distracted from driving by doing this!!!!!!

Even taking the phone out of the equation she still pulled out in front of another vehicle causing a fatal accident, surely this alone is grounds for serious prosecution, this country is a fucking joke!!!!!!!!!
