Gear changing problems

Checking your clutch adjustment would be the first check I make followed by your chain tension.

What is the mileage on the bike and when was the last time the oil was changed?

changing down

It could be a weak shift shaft spring but could be clutch drag which you don`t want changing down.

It could be the wrong type of engine oil or too much clutch lever play or a binding cable not giving full movement on the clutch arm above the gearbox.

Does the bike jolt forwards when selecting 1st gear?

Also what position is your lever when the clutch bites as in 1/4 , 1/2 , 3/4 ,way out?

Cable ok and lever at 1/2 to 3/4 bite. No jolts when selecting 1st.

Yamaha600 Fazer FS 2008

Hi lpgpro

As Jaffa90 has already pointed out,its probably a shift shaft return spring problem if all is in spec, have it investigated before you do damage to the selector forks and transmission. Good Luck

I trust you are using the clutch when you change down?

Fazer

Has it always been like this, or has it just started?
Do you remove the foot pressure completely after changing gear?
Is the gear lever adjusted too low, so that it's fouling something on down shifts?

Just started, remove pressure after changes and no fouling with cable or pedal.
