Conviction for causing death by careless driving

Today a car driver (see link) was sentenced to 9 months in jail for causing the death of a motorcyclist by careless driving. Also today Hulme/Price were convicted to 8 months a piece as, according to the judge, 'it will send a message to others ...'

The driver convicted of causing the death of the motorcyclist (Markus Wideson) had previously been convicted of other motoring offences.

So what EXACTLY Judge Sweeney has anyone learnt from this?

9 months for careless driving,

is, sadly the 'guideline' going rate....even though the maximum sentence is 5years (woop wee)....the sentence is based on 3 levels of criteria that fall within the offence of careless (as opposed to dangerous) driving.

The message is clearly that

'perverting the course of justice' is far more serious than death..

I was once threatened by the police with being prosecuted for 'perverting the course of justice' simply because I was waving a warning to oncoming motorists about a speed trap!

Clearly 'waving' to folk is far more serious than killing them.:winkie:

Out within 5 months if he behaves himself

if that was my son he'd killed I'd be waiting for him/find him and he wouldn't be driving again.
