Rider group’s fury as hit-and-run drink-driver walks free

The Motorcycle Action Group has accused courts of ‘inconsistent sentencing’ after a hit-and-run drink-driver walked free from court. MAG President Ian Mutch attacked the ‘leniency’ of a suspended sentence handed to Thomas Scully, 63, who was more than twice over the legal alcohol limit when he pulled out on a motorcyclist. Scully, who had spent hours drinking in a pub before getting...

This is disgusting, drink driving should be mandatory jail and ban. bikers get it from all sides. you can be the safest biker in the world, but when an idiot like this gets behind the wheel, you got no chance.

Really, what is the point of a 1.3mill campaign, if the CPS and the courts don't back it up?

Treated like 2nd class human

Yet again the life of someone on two wheels is treated as less important than other people. Almost a year ago I was left for dead on a busy road by a hit-and-run driver who was never caught, because "nobody saw it happen" at 3pm outside a train station! Magistrates, Police etc start with the theory that the biker is in the wrong. We ride bikes so must be the responsable for any acident. Even my consultant's first statement was "So, had you been drinking?"

The magistrate in this case probaly made his choice before even hearing the evidence; "It was only a biker, give the guy a break" I'm sick of cases like this where car drivers in the wrong are let off after killing or maiming some innocent rider who was just in the wrong place at the wrong stinks

further information?

It'll be interesting to see whether there's further information to come on this situation, because there better be a bl**dy good reason for him to not get jail. On another note, this is surely constructive manslaughter and should not have been dealt with by a magistrate. This should have been in High Court with a judge and jury.

His previous convictions were in the 1990s

But even with all the context in the world, this one does beggar belief.

It also send this pretty clear message: had a few and properly mashed someone up?  Eh, just drive off. You might get away with it and it won't be any worse for you if you don't.

Fair enough...

.....I was going to say until i read something similar on the other posts, this is not a suprise and its no use posting pointless phrases like 2nd class citizen and bikers lives are not valued.

This is very clearly, absolute with no doubt, a case of see you in the lodge meeting on Wednesday night.

Funny handshake, trousers round the knees and off to the pub we go. This is British Justice in the raw, depending on who you know and what you are, the law may not apply to you.

He probably has to wank the judge off on Wednesday whilst eating a kebab as a punishment.

Perhaps justice is better served by allowing those who have been wronged to exact their own revenge?

Failing that, hope this twat dies slowly of cancer.
