Rider group’s fury as hit-and-run drink-driver walks free

The Motorcycle Action Group has accused courts of ‘inconsistent sentencing’ after a hit-and-run drink-driver walked free from court. MAG President Ian Mutch attacked the ‘leniency’ of a suspended sentence handed to Thomas Scully, 63, who was more than twice over the legal alcohol limit when he pulled out on a motorcyclist. Scully, who had spent hours drinking in a pub before getting...

Something tells me this is not the last time he does something like this with his track record. Surely there must be scope for a private prosecution by the victim and his family! I'll donate to it!

Hope the person he hit is ok now. Thanks for reminding me to join MAG, as the people in power look for numbers in lobey groups before they help or hinder them.

If I run over this prick while drunk I'll only get 250 hours community service? Sounds like a deal to me.

I cannot understand this gross miscarriage of justice. The 'poor old man' gets away with this. Meanwhile, the police come down so hard on bikers for speeding. This is favouritism in its most disgusting manifestation.

Anyone can refer an unduly lenient sentence to the Attorney General

So let's see some Action that goes beyond a press release.

This is getting beyond the joke when a drink driving offence ( his third ) gets less than a motor cyclist speeding

It's incredible how this can be allowed to happen. How many millions are spent on anti drink drive campaigns each year. Yet this person, who was twice over the limit, also drove away from the scene of an accident leaving someone for dead so he could get away with a couple of pints and driving home. What has the human race lowered itself to? Had Michael have died, I wonder how this fat, drunken car driving builder would have felt and what the courts would have done. Thankfully Michael survived.

It was mentioned in a recent article about deer culling that we should start culling humans instead. Well, here's your first waste of human space that should be taken to one side and shot.

I really do feel sorry for Michael Daniels and I hope he persues some proper justice.

As for the fat, ugly pissed up builder who drove home and left Michael in the road, your time will come but not soon enough.

After riding for nearly  50 years I have decided  I have become a magnet  for  old car drivers . Having had  at least 4  "offs " , the last one in September  last year when a old lady  knocked me off  half a mile from home and putting me in hospital  for 23 days  . She never stopped  but 2 other "mature" ladies did . Her  driving seemed to signify  she was drunk  ,and she got away at speed ,so we only got a parcial  no. plate . One of the witnesses rung the police , but they didn"t  turn -up till  I was in hospital  some time later ,as I made my way home ,not realising I was THAT badly hurt  . But too cut a long story short [ish] nothing came of it  , even though the car was a  big grey Ford  people carrier  and the old girl was about  75 [ish] with grey hair - there can"t be that many grannies ,with that type of vehicle  , locally  ? . The police & courts are just another part of  government that  dislike bikers & think the quicker we are all gone the better  .
