Nice try Cypriot Parliament !

if this had gone through which other EU governments would have done it ? I think Spain's and Italy's would have, but it's only postponed so maybe they will give it a go. When we opened a Spanish account they pushed like hell for us to have all our pensions paid into it --- no ta ! we love Spain but not enough to risk all our money in an account here.

scandalous

What concerns me is if this goes through then surely that would set a precedent for the EU ("how easy was that!! Let's do it again!").

The other thing - the British government have stated that any BFPO in Cyprus would be recompensed (rightly so)  -  but does that not mean the UK taxpayer is part financing this bailout?......

IT IS STILL GOING AHEAD!!

The money grab is still going ahead it's just been put on hold until the cypriot government work out what percentages of people life savings they are going to steal. Its a bank holiday in cyprus today (monday 18th March) so people only have acces to what they can withdrawn with bank cards. There have been limits placed on what savings people can withdraw (sanctioned by the government) so that common folk can't protect their savings from this money grab. Part of the reason for this is cypriot banks have large russian deposits within them which are thought to potentially be for money laundering and this money grab is partially to get that.

The EU finance minsiters say its up to Cyprus how they get the cash for the bail out but the EU bank wants its cash before it'll release any further bail out money.

There will be

trouble ! and I'm SO glad we didn't agree to have our money moved to/paid into our Spanish account cos I reckon this is going to set a precedent. The EU is heading toward a melt down, too many greedy feckers had sticky fingers in dirty pies allowing the likes of Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania in, where does Europe end ? in the Balkans ? at the Cypriot beaches ? Where will they be when it crashes ? nowhere to bee seen I'd suspect and certainly not struggling to feed themselves or their families --- and the bankers will get richer off the misery as per usual.

Russians

The Spanish costa's are infested with them, we were in a very nice shop in Altea on Saturday, it sells nice really nice furniture, it's frontage signs are written in Russian and Spanish and EVERY  customer in there apart from us was Russian. They're buying up property everywhere and they are not nice people, a lot of criminal types, 4 of the apartments in our building have been bought by Russians who didn't even look at them, didn't even come to Spain. They're profiteering off the recession here  offering minimal money to anyone selling up an English guy I know has his house on the market valued at 450,000 euro's he was offered 182,000 by a Russian he didn't take the offer.

July to September direct flights come into Alicante from Russia, the Russian holidaymakers are among some of the most base people I've seen, Calpe is the main destination here, last year we saw one dig a hole in the sand on the beach for his kid to shit in then buried it, there was a toilet 50 yards away ffs. We avoid Calpe in those months. Thankfully we don't see many in Albir.

Spain

Not so very sure it will work as well in Spain - most spanish still keep most of their money under the mattress.

(They also still hold a huge amount of pesetas, for when the euro collapses - which the government is aware of, but can do nothing about.)

worrying

This concerns me a lot. I WAS in the process of transfering money from Dubai to Spain, obviously i have put a stop to it. My wife, as we speak is in the process of shifting some of our cash here to elswhere.

Vulc, Ninja, anybody in Spain, i have a nice plot in Altea-la-Vella on the Monterico development with magnificent views over Altea, Albir and onwards to Benidorm with all the design, licences etc etc to build tomorrow. We have been trying to catch one of these dirty russians or even dirtier chinks but they have eluded us thus far. If you bump into any let them you you know of a good plot for sale.

Meanwhile i had better intensify my search for a bike here and use some of our cash.:doubt:
