Valentino Rossi’s back, but where’s the money? Yamaha explains

When Yamaha launches its 2013 factory MotoGP world championship effort in Jerez tomorrow (Friday), Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo’s YZR-M1 machinery will once again be missing a title sponsor. The return of Italian icon Rossi, who remains unquestionably the biggest box office star in MotoGP, has not attracted significant fresh investment to the Japanese factory, which is preparing for a third...

Nice try Wosi

But if I remember correctly, that was your opening gambit on the topic

You're guilty of trolling with a big hook often enough and sometimes with a smaller slightly more subtle one, no doubt of that, but this was pure joy, delivered with a smirk and a swagger, that your boy was about to bankroll Yamaha. Vindication of your assertion that his personality transcends a sport which cannot survive without him.

Oh dear, seems the marketing department mis-calculated just how much a piece of the action potential sponsors actually wanted

Wosi, don't panic!

Don't do it mate, we'd miss you.  You're too much fun on here, where we can hit you..

And hey, this makes the perfect opportunity for the Tuvallia Pizzeria to get in bigtime.  You know, the one with the 'adult' section out the back where the fans can buy those life-size cardboard cut-outs of Rossi?  Apparently, they sell dozens every year!  He's still got it, mate, even I have to admit, though apparently scientists are working on an ointment for it..

absolutely no doubt

that valentino is a global icon, and that yamaha's lack of a major sponsor says more about the state of motogp and wesern economies than anything else.

Doohanfan I disagree

Rossi's demographic is now strictly the middle aged and older male, the kids aren't interested despite what the motogp press corp (mostly past it besides Matt Birt) and the rusted ons here like to portray. "Just for men", "Regaine" or "Viagra" would be a better fit for Rossi sponsorship wise than a monster or red bull, I mean what the hell are monster energy thinking do they want a class action for  causing diabetes amongst rossi's ageing fan base.

Yes Rossi is a legend

which pretty much means he's a pretty good "has been". The only people who keep talking this "legend" stuff and pushing it on everyone is Carmelo, Jarvis, and the like who's trying to squeeze every last nickle out of the circus side show before the tent completely folds. Hell, even MCN is pimping out the "Rossi" name on every last freaking MotoGP article headline trying to grab hits even though it's the same 10 idiots banging out 200 plus post on some lame story's thread that's been hi-jacked into a Rossi vs Stoner debate.
