The L85A1 was basically forced into production whilst still in prototype phase of development, hence the firing pin being designed to take 120 rounds in 24 hours - about what you'd expect to fire during a test / demo.


They did keep blaming the jams etc on lack of proper maintenance but frankly if it's that widespread then it's a problem with either the weapon system or the maintenance required.

The A2 so I'm told has all the advantages of the A1 but with only the remaining disadvantages of balance, position of fire selector and weight. It's recognised for it's reliability and accuracy.
