Cal Crutchlow plays down Jerez speed

British rider Cal Crutchlow played down his eye-catching performance on the second day of testing at the Jerez track in Spain today after he finished third quickest behind factory Yamaha duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. After yesterday’s torrential rain the surface didn’t dry out until after 1pm today, but former World Supersport champion Crutchlow was immediately fast and found himself...

Just cant resist the urge to whine...christ."As ive ALWAYS said...my package is not what the others have got"..."There is not much more i can be asked to do". No shit sherlock...you are a "satellite" rider so just be happy that yamaha has such a good bike to give you. It doesnt matter how good your bike is if you are only fast in practice and cant keep it out of the kitty litter during a race. Yamaha gave their satellite team a great bike last year which was close to the factory( probably because it was a brand new era...so they all started on a similar bike). As the season progressed the factory got a bit better, but it was so good out of the box that they didnt change much...even on the factory bike. This was evidenced by jorges bikegetting left behind in the second half. Yamaha didnt suffer from the weight change like honda so their bikes had an advantage at the start of the season. Cal is a classic case of an ok rider who looks better than he is due to the bike. He is going to whine and winge all year no doubt about hondas satellite bikes vs yamahas....as he finds himself fighting for sixth and seventh. A position that matches his true ability though not his self perceived one.

The fact that he could bother rossi last year has left him with a false sense of his own ability. He wont see rossi this year after the lights go out. He will be able to beat dovi though...someone who had the measure of him on the same bike

You've no idea WTF your talking about,last years Tech3 bike was nothing like Lorenzo's,go in the paddock and ask,you unknowlegeable muppet.

As for matching Rossi,he'll do that alright even on a below par bike.

Ah, the irony of your statement;

 Cal is a classic case of an ok rider who looks better than he is due to the bike.

2010/2011 taught us just that in no uncertain terms with Ducati's then lead rider.

Nice work by Cal. Running consistent pace. Let's see if he can bring that to more races than 2012 and continue his progression.

I think Call will occasionally have the pace of Rossi..

..his problem will come in the battle. As much as it pains me to say this, he appears not to have the race craft of the top boys, which was evident in his races with Dovi last season. Having said that, he's got balls and a massive desire to prove people wrong and that will hopefully carry him a long way. Bottom line is though, he's got to bring that bike home and not make so many mistakes..

silly nostril hair

Rossi is a great rider who was on a shit bike for 2 years. Cal is an ok rider on a great bike. Completely uncomparable, therefore no irony. Try to keep up sunshine. And winger you tool...the satellite yamahas were tje best satellite bike last year and MUCH closer to the factory than the satellite hondas were...ask in the paddock...you moron ask who? Whinger cal? We all know what he will say, but he has biaggis "poor me everyone else bike is better...waa waa". Cal doesnt need a better bike he just needs to be a better rider on race day

Does your inability to say rossi's name have something to do with your therapy perhaps? Ducatis then #1, yamahas #2....wow rossi really got in your head as well if you are that afraid to say his name...i get it...uttering his name would give him power over you eh hobbit?

Go for it ,Cal,

as CHR so lucidly points out, the guy has speed, but has he got class? Forget all the whinging stuff, can't think of any rider who hasn't complained about some aspect of their machine at one time or another. If he has his race head on and the confidence to go with the ALIENS then the trick is CONCENTRATION. Was at the Sachsenring last year when he had a classic dice with DOVI, it was too close to call and they were even on a better lap pace than Jorge...when Cal decided to go walk about at turn one....Herve was not amused, Dovi had already commited to Ducati.
