And todays bargain is.....

Been to Merry Hill and picked up this little beauty. Torque wrench, 2-24nm on a 1/4" drive. £19.99 from Clas Ohlson down by Asda. They had a 1/2" drive one too, 40-200nm (I think) £29.99...... But I've already got one of them..
Bargain :0)

hey pal i'm not putting your gear down ,when you bought it it would be calibrated and should last a while , not sure of the company name we use but there are 100's out there but to be honest it may not be cost effective .

calibration

Are you friendly with anyone at a nearby garage? Like Albert88, our place is regularly visited, and maybe one of the staff could get your torque wrench (etc) calibrated?? I asked the bloke to check my own tools, including tyre pressure gauge.........  cost me a cup of tea.

I get my 2 done at Kawasaki in Plymouth

Not a bike place though. They are part of KHI and make hydraulic drive motors. I go there to inspect their pressure systems and they have a fully UKAS accredited calibration shop.

Low cost Home Calibration.

Using a conversion chart convert NM to foot/pounds.

Using a one foot long ring spanner and a spring balance tighten a bolt or nut to a known figure say 10 ft/pounds using the spring balance to pull the spanner.

Mark the bolt/nut position, slacken it and then using your torque wrench tighten it back to the same position, if it does not 'break' increase the pressure on the torque wrench spring by one ft/pound until it 'breaks' you then have the calibration point for that setting of your torque wrench at 10ft/pounds.

You can do this for the range of your torque wrench, its good enough for the home mechanics torque wrench.

Calibration

I do it for the local council. They bring them in every 6 mths & I check them for accuracy against a proper Norbar device bolted to my workshop wall. We charge £10 a unit, cheap really.

Have to say though that temperature seems to make a difference to some of them. You can get an accurate reading at 700nM, but at 1000nM it can be 10% or more out. I like to keep them within 2%.
