Bradley Smith ninth after eye-opening practice

British rookie Bradley Smith admitted his brilliant ride into the top 10 in practice in Qatar last night was a massive eye-opener into the challenge he faces to push Yamaha’s YZR-M1 1000cc machine at the limit over a full race distance. The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team rider finished ninth fastest in the third free practice with a pace of 1.56.901...

Well done Smudge!

Good start to the season, tonight to go and then the race. Top ten is looking good for your first race. Tech 3 must be pretty chuffed with their line up.

Go Bradley!!!

I hope it's a pace he can be comfortable with... he seems a level headed guy who's not into taking massive risks early on, hoping only to build his skills over the season... to be this far up is promising but it's not qualifying yet & I expect the big guns to be firing later on... but it's a good pace if he can reproduce it repeatedly on race day.

Excellent showing from a fast, intelligent, supremely fit guy - hope he can repeat it in the race.

Good going Ginge

No reason he shouldn't challenge for a top 10 first outing. Now all he and Calvin need is a little more oomph from Yamaha. The kind of oomph which gives George and Valentino a 10km/hr straight line speed advantage over young Smith. We heard that moan some seasons back. I guess that was different. Anyway, lets see what FP4 throws up. Under the new qualifying system, its really the only session where the blokes can afford to focus on long runs without risk of losing grid positions. Cheers till then.

Good results

There we have it Bradley's fast straight out of the box. Always was fast just had some 'bad' bikes. 'bad' meaning not on grade 'A' bikes. Very difficult out there because of the sand not only slippery but the engines will be 'gulping' in a shovel full every few laps under certain weather conditions making it difficult to sift all that out before it gets into the cylinder, not ideal when you need long lasting engines.

needs to finish top 8

Bradley needs to step it up imo after all he is on the most sorted bike in the paddock as I have been saying for years. Still the guy must wonder what he has to do to garner support from brit fans.

Prince of Repsol

Those two sentences are an oxymoron. An honest question here, which shouldn't be seen as bating or having a pop, but where do you stand? In what way should he "step it up"?
