running on 3

until high revs, sounds like crap fuel and a weak mixture up to high revs, carb pilot jets need cleaning (layed up) these work mostly up to 3,000rpm.I would fit an inline filter as well just in case the tank/tap is full of crap.

Hi

Given the reg, I'm guessing pre exup? The exup valves and associated gubbins are a regular source of problems. But I guess yours won't have one?

As the others have said, a fuel line check and carb clean is first port of call.

This might seem a daft question, but I assume the airbox is still there?

Might a backfire suggest a possible ignition problem? Could maybe just check each header pipe as the bike warms up. See if one is colder.

Fzr archives forum is a good source of information too.

4 miles between m.o.t.s.

You may be in for a shock,i`m talking rust in them carbs/jets.

You may be lucky if a fuel additive has been used.
