Valentino Rossi rues mistake and traffic in qualifying

Valentino Rossi’s bid for a first Yamaha podium since the end of 2010 will commence from a lowly seventh on the grid after the Italian experienced an eventful qualifying session in Qatar last night. Competing in the new 15-minute sprint session to decide places for the top 12 grid positions, Rossi could only finish seventh fastest with a best lap of...

Hmmm...

Starting behind the bike he was lapped on last time he raced isn't good... he's had nearly 2 & a half years of "you don't lose talent like that over night"... tonight he's got to prove that he didn't lose it back in November 2010 when he swung a leg over the Ducati. GP racing doesn't forgive mistakes & he's made 2 already in qualifying. The bullshit stops when the flag drops... bring on the racing & good luck to him.

If

this was another rider saying this, the usual suspects would have taken the comments on this topic to over 3 figures by now to the tune of moaning twat, moan moan moan...

I'm pretty sure he'll be higher than that in the race, but to get stuck in traffic with only 12 riders on track - come on, how difficult would it have been to find a bit of space out on track? Unless he was really tight on time, they could also have held him in the pits a bit longer with the tyre warmers on.

There's also the possibility that he cracked under the pressure of having to produce a quicker time to move up the grid and ran off the track over riding whilst trying to do so  -  or at least that would be the case if it was another rider...

Have these mistakes cost Rossi his podium opportunity? Some people mutter 'possibly' while the vast majority gleefully shout: 'Probably'. Will he make a big mistake in the race today? Some people mutter 'possibly' while the vast ........ you get the drift? Pressure and Rossi don't seem to get along together and he's ramped it up considerably by qualifying poorly. Bradl, Marquez, Dovi - none of 'em slow and Rossi starts behind them. That's before he can even think of Lorenzo, Crutchlow (good luck by the way) and Pedrosa. Christ! What a script! Rossi simply must beat Dovi & 'his' Ducati to retain a shred of credibility - but can he? Not long to go now!!!!!!!!!

if stoner had done it

Hed have probably barged people out of the way and thrown a hissy fit afterwards, as opposed to admitting that he made a mistake about when he left the pit

Aye...

... but he would have qualified on pole... he did didn't he?... at Le Mans 2011... the incident you're referring to? Did he go on to win the race?... perhaps that sort of passion is what it takes to be number 1.

Try reading this.Have noticed a trend with you regarding Rossi.
He was not the only one to get held up either but how could it happen with only 12 riders?
You seem to know more than them.

ramming hedgey

Wasnt thinking of any particular incident hedgey. So you are of the opinion that rossi should have deliberatley rammed another rider out of the way and then complained about it afterwards? I suppose it could have at least allowed us to see the new popenalty system in action. Did casey qualify pole on that particular lap?

Erm... he was held up on that lap... have you been following this sport long?

"So you are of the opinion that rossi should have deliberatley rammed another rider out of the way and then complained about it afterwards?"

Nope... just making an observation as an addition to yours because I felt it was incomplete.

What exactly is your point with that link, which is a repeat of this article?

He says he made two mistakes, one to run off track, then another to go out at the wrong time. With only 12 riders on track, I would have thought it wouold be achievabe to find a gap somewhere on track, or leave the pits at a more appropriate time - unless time left in the session meant he had no choice.

The rest of what I said was a bit of irony based upon what a few on here would be jamming this topic with if Stoner's name appeared in place of Rossi's in this article. You know the form, cracked under pressure and ran wide, moaning about traffic, not his fault etc etc etc.
