Jerry Burgess: We need to improve to challenge Jorge Lorenzo

Valentino Rossi’s crew chief Jerry Burgess believes Jorge Lorenzo’s dominant victory in the opening MotoGP round in Qatar last Sunday was proof of how much Rossi has to improve to consistently battle with the Spaniard for victories in 2013. Lorenzo might have made the perfect start to the defence of his crown with a runaway success at the Losail International Circuit,...

Built a quick lead and then did the minimum to win...wtf is wrong with some on here.....if rossi had got to 2nd place early in the race he would have crossed the line in 2nd place cos lorenzo would have really put the hammer down and proper fuked off instead of cruising round for 3/4 of the race....and doing the last lap side saddle waving to the crowd......I am a rossi fan, but some rossi fans on here need to get a grip of reality....lorenzo hammered everyone in that race end of

JL beating everyone?

A rider can't do much more than win to 'prove' best and Jorge did seemingly easily. More interesting is why despite frequent moaning from some places the satellite Hondas seemed to struggle more than the satellite Yamahas? This despite all the 'extra support Honda give to their satellite riders over Yamaha' we're so told. This will be doubly interesting in Austin- mooted as more of a Honda track. As Bootlegger says the 5-10 places will be most interesting, possibly much of the year. I hope they show them sufficiently.

That is exactly why I was looking at the lap times when Jorge was trying to pull away in the early part of the race and when Rossi had a clear track and trying to catch up in the latter. The lap times were not much difference, that is the reality.

One way of Rossi beating JL is doing what he did at Motegi in 2010 in that battle for the final podium spot.

Lorenzo trying to pull away?

He did pull away and did it looking pretty comfortable. Why, when every time you pass your pit board and you see your lead increasing, would you have to go any faster than you are. He did what he had to do, you have no idea how much quicker he could have gone.

That's the reality

Exactly....lorenzo wasn't even trying....never outbraked himself, never got out of shape, bike never slid...he was having a sunday afternoon trot round.....he didn't go any faster than rossi mid to late race because he didn't need to......rossi needs to get to that 1st corner in the lead and shake it up a bit.....or lorenzo will be in the garage looking at his data before rossi has finished the race

It's gonna take another Gp to see where everyone stands. No one will ever know if J-lo could have racked of raster laps if Rossi wasn't held up. With was his own fault. I reckon MM will win next round, cause MM rules.

We could argue all day about if Lorenzo could of gone faster, but I would of thought the he was putting the hammer down early on, to try and break the following pack and he wouldn't of let off until he was a fair few seconds ahead, which was getting on for lap 10. So again, with this in mind Rossi wasn't far off Lorenzos early pace, when Rossi had a clear track.
