Revving moped

My mate's got a 1997 honda sgx50 sky moped. It has  just developed a problem where by it will go from tickover to screaming revs without touching the throttle!

Using a donor bike which runs fine, we have swapped carb, slide, throttle cable and auto choke. Problem stays on original bike.
Any ideas anyone?

Honda SGX 50 SKY 1997

Hi tc330,jeez man a 16 year old two smoke mophead:shock:

Sounds like the diaphragm in the fuel tap may have go west allowing neat fuel into the crankcase bypassing the carb, could also have a air leak compounding the problem?like in the reed valve gaskets,or maybe a crack in the heat insulator between the carb face and intake manifold(check the O'ring is sealing good as well).Good Luck

Fuel tap......

Never thought of that one, I did look at seals and gaskets and all seemed ok......but like you say it is an oldie  It's a training school bike so gets a hard life.

Thanks for advice mate, have a good one - or if that don't happen have a cold one
