Jerez MotoGP: Lorenzo stays cool in crash-fest qualifying

Jorge Lorenzo kept his cool to ride to pole for tomrrow's Jerez Grand Prix as his title rivals buckled under pressure as they tried to close the gap to him. Pedrosa and Rossi crashed within seconds of each other towards the end of the session, leaving them unable to make full advantage of qualifying tyres. Pedrosa managed to hold second, ahead of...

J-lo should take this win easilly. Seeing about everyone else crash to get even close says enough. Too bad Ianone got hurt crashing in the last free practice. Could well have been top Duke tommorow.

I can't see anyone taking George's title this year. Smooth and metronomic laps. In FP3, where the real work is done, he completed 16 laps all within 0.57 seconds of each other. The other riders were quick but nowhere near as consistent. Case in point, a multiple world champion's laps varied by 3.63 seconds in the same session.

You're talking about Pedrosa, right?

Actually..I make the difference between Dani's FP3 fast/slow lap nearer 5.5 secs?

All riders, bar JL in that session, have such differences in practice.

I don't think it's indicative of 'race pace' where they'll all be more consistent..until the soft fronts go off.

27 race laps in company, on full fuel, are not the same as 8/9 laps in qualifying.

Jorge - the new king of time-trialling

Impressive but rather boring from a race fans perspective. Somebody needs to step up soon or Jorge will run away with the title. Who has the cojones to do it though?

Now there's a familiar moan

Get Bridgestone to cook Jorge up a set of overnight specials each race and I'm sure he'll be happy to "battle" his way to the championship.  Don't think it'll stop your moaning, though.

Champion !!!

Let's not get carried away, there's only 11 points between the top 4, and the Rossi hate fest is already under way, typical.

Boring or not, it's up to his competitors to break his rhythm. Do you expect the guy to pull over, let the field pass him and then battle his way forwards? Actually that sounds like a plan. Maybe have two races ala SBK, with race 2 being a reverse grid.
