Motorcycle Leather Crafts

Hi Guys,

Avid motorcycle riders commonly wear leather items, such as chaps, jackets and gloves. This isn’t only for stylistic purposes, but serves as a protective layer from the elements encountered during a ride. Leather items are also very durable and protect the rider’s skin in the event of a fall. For the rider who wants to customize her leather gear, there are many craft projects where your special touches can be added. Paint the back of your leather jacket or top of your riding gloves with a custom design. Suede leather often works the best for this type of craft, but other types of leather can hold paint if properly prepared. Be sure to clean the surface of the leather with mild soap and water. If the leather is shiny, remove the surface coating of wax with rubbing alcohol; this helps the paint to adhere. Fine sandpaper may also be run over the surface to help the paint stick. Use acrylic paints to apply the design of your choice to the leather gear. Flex the leather as the paint dries to prevent cracking.

Best Regards,
Sara Chang
