Valentino Rossi reflects on disastrous first lap exit

Valentino Rossi was fortunate to escape injury after the Italian’s hopes of claiming a home podium in Mugello were ended by a disastrous first lap collision with Spaniard Alvaro Bautista. The factory Yamaha rider was trying to gain lost ground after a sluggish start from seventh on the grid when he collided with Bautista’s Gresini Honda RC213V at just the third...

LAwoman...

"Clear the pack early would be my view."

... & mine too... last time he won a championship he got 7 pole positions & 6 fastest laps... we've endured almost 3 years of "you don't lose talent like that overnight" & "he always qualifies badly" from myopic fans... now is the time to live up to the hype or resign himself to top 10's & 1st lap tangles. Qualifying does count... starting 7th & dropping to 10th is asking for trouble.

Diab-tard

Do you honestly think calling me American when I'm English annoys me? I'm going to defy my own logic by saying you're a bigger fuckwit than I thought you were. There's something about your vernacular makes me suspicious...

Hedgehog..

Give it a rest you dork..

The only myopic fans around here for the last 3 years have been the Rossi haters like you.

This new Q1 and Q2 is absolute horseshit. It was brought out so CRT sponsors and bikes could supposedly get more air time. I don't bother watching..instead, make a brew and a bacon sarnie and it's done. Fuck off.

CRT is officially being dropped, so let's do the same for this stupid idea and get back to normal.

Everybody and his dog was looking for a tow off Rossi. It's dangerous and not fair on the bloke doing the towing. Stoner would have been punching everybody out.

I think I'll get one of them petitions up and send it to the hairy little Uncle.

Wosi...

Sorry... he's gone from qualifying on the front row in pole last time he won a championship to mostly qualifying low top 10 when he went to Ducati... nothing's changed & he's not even close to the front row yet. As a result he's encountering the same problems he has been for the last 2 years. The Q1/Q2 may be crap but they're all having to deal with it... & if they're looking for a tow from Rossi they're looking to the wrong guy.

If I've said something wrong then correct me... if I've upset you with the truth then man-up.

The format may have changed

But the idea of posting the fastest lap time to secure the best grid position possible at the start hasn't.

I think the format, particularly the last bit, has stirred it up and added a bit more of a spectacle. I think they need to make a tweak to allow for circuits with longer laps, the range is about 1:30 to about 2 mins for all tracks so fewer laps are possible on longer tracks in the timescale. I think it was mooted on Eurosport about sending the riders out in intervals to keep a gap between them.

They're not going to go back to a straight 45-60 minute qualifying session as there are often longish periods of inactivity that don't make great viewing.

I think Superpole would work in MotoGP, there are a number of one lap specialists and the increased sponsor air time for bikes further down the order in the race would be a good thing. No one could latch on for a tow or be bimbling around with their thumb up their backside on racing line.

There's only one man who can sort Rossi's problems out and that's Rossi. He's doing rubbish in qualifying.

Not as scary as you'd think.

But more scary than you'd first imagine.

Marquez should retire.

That 'performance' at Mugello... shocking. Pedrosa should as well, and Crutchlow... in fact, they should all retire, I'm sure we could all do a better job. No problem. Maybe motorcycling should be banned because none of the riders are good enough for people to consider it a sport.
