Marc Marquez still not thinking about title challenge

Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez may have only finished off the podium once in his opening six MotoGP races but the rookie sensation is still refusing to think he is a world title challenger in 2013. The 20-year-old has already become the youngest rider in history to win in MotoGP when he was victorious in the Austin round and he heads...

New Era

Whoever wins the championship this year will be the final "pre-Marquez" era winner in much the same way that Kenny Roberts Jr was the final "pre-Rossi" winner. So yeah, everyone else is basically gonna be scrapping for 2nd place for the next 10 years.

Of course, if Marquez should win it this year, then congrats to Jorge Lorenzo!

As much as what Marquez is doing

Is both impressive and unsurprising, you seem to rate DP and JL somewhat lower than I do CC. KRJR had a couple of purple years on the two stroke Suzuki without having to face riders of the mature calibre of said DP and JL. 1999/2000 apart he did nothing. Lorenzo and Pedrosa will be in the mix for as long as they want to.

DP and JL

Oh no, not at all, they are two of the finest motorcyle racers of this generation. Jorge, in particular, sometimes makes me think he's a robot he's so metronomically consistent. They are absolutely brilliant riders. Marquez, though, is special. He's the once every 20 years talent that like Rossi before him, will dominate the sport for 10 years or so. He's the freak of nature.

Put it this way, if you had to bet your life on how many championships he's going to win before 2020, what would you say?

MM

is undoubtedly a very very special talent.... and i like the kids attitude a lot... plus he is a real bonus for the brand image of the sport big time... but he still has a long way to go to reach the heights of JL in particular, currently the most complete and competent rider on the prototype grid... as for reaching VR's and others level of success, ignoring the boring and silly debates of how they achieved it! He has a fucking big mountain to climb... but he would definitely be worth a punt to do so.... but life in this sport can be particularly cruel and unfair... so lets just enjoy it and the speculation too :))

MCN...

"Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez may have only finished off the podium once in his opening six MotoGP races"

Technically he hasn't finished off the podium yet this year... the only race he didn't podium he DNF'ed.

Good luck to him... it's his 1st year so he doesn't have to think about the championship... if it comes right for him later in the year he can worry about that at the last round.

Come on MCN

Save the non stories and start throwing some facts out, ideally new ones.

Does anyone think about the championship before the halfway point of the season?

MM

is a rare talent, but doesnt have the finess of a JL or DP as yet - but then neither does he have the years of experience in the premier class, or the accidents to bring him back from the fine edge.

JL is the benchmark to be judged against today, for his career progression to the No1 spot as well as his professional development from wild rookie to world champion. DP has his moments for sure, and is a very close competitor but doesnt quite have the consistency and precision of JL to be the best of the best.

I do not believe MM will win the title this year, though I do beleive Honda will have the bike (development) advantage for 2014 to ensure they start the season with the best package within the new rules. not to take anything away from MM, but next year he will win because of his talent and Hondas preparazione.
