Assen MotoGP: Rossi takes dominant win

Valentino Rossi took his 80th premier class win with a dominant performance at Assen today onboard the factory Yamaha. The victory marks Rossi's first win since the Malaysian grand prix in 2010. Starting from the second row, Rossi moved up to third at the end of the first lap with a hard move on German Stefan Bradl at the final chicane. On lap...

Lorenzo broke his collarbone and Yamaha need points taken away from HRC so Rossi and Cal get Jorges's spec bike to do just that. Saw the same thing years ago, at Assen as well, when Edwards was dusting up with Hayden for the win after Rossi hurt his wrist. Shows that with the best bike, for that is what the M1 is, Rossi has still got it and Cal can get it sooner rather than later. Should have been a Yamaha one two to be honest.

Rossi quickly came out with some crap that suddenly after so many races the team found a setting to help his braking, but we were hearing that BS during the Michelin years when he suddenly found something in morning warm up.

If I'm right then once Jorge gets fit then Rossi and Cal will once again be behind the Hondas. I don't like Yamahas #1 rider, eggs in one basket strategy, but the titles won say it works.

People are still doubting Rossi's ability

Amazing. Its been 17 years, he's just come back from a tough 3 years and now he's won a race again. But no, obviously everyone else let him win because Carmelo paid them to. Rossi was the best rider in the world today, only a fit Lorenzo would have even been able to get slightly close to him.

Its amazing that valentino had the forsight to invent the crap about having found a setting that helped his braking back at the aragon test, its as if he knew that jorge would break his collar bone and he'd get a jorge spec bike. Maybe there is something behind the consiracy theories about him and uncle carmelo after all

more delusions

look here , a fully fit jorge would have romped away with the win. Simple. The fact he jumped on his bike and was able to challenge riders who have had a FULL DAY of practice further proves have good the Yamaha/ Jlo combo is. A Factory Honda barely faster than the rookie on the other Tech 3 Yamaha and a ART?! and some people here would like you to believe the Yamaha is worse than the Honda...righto! Its just further proof that the yellow one can only win on the best bike...

just STFU about a fit jorge would have romped away with the win, rossi did the same thing today to pedrosa that lorenzo did to pedrosa in catalunya and mugello. rossi said two weeks ago at the test that hes found something and wants to finish ahead of the hondas this weekend and he's done it. why cant people just be happy that the goat is back to liven things up and not make it a 2 man battle for the win all the time. even if your not fan to continue to hate and make out like it wasnt deserved just makes you look petty and proves you deserve to get told you have gonorrhea then get hit by a bus...

Well done by rossi today. Its good to see that the aragon test actually did allow him to figure out some things. He looked very smooth today and had a great rythm from the start. If his ability to brake like he wants has been sorted, he can be competitive again with the big 3. Its a bit silly to say if lorenzo wasnt hurt, rossi wouldnt have won...if lorenzo wasnt hurt cal wouldnt have had pole position. Lorenzo was hurt, rossi won, and cal got pole...thats what actually happened. I think lorenzo probably would have been able to beat rossi today, but you never know...rossi has a freakishly good rythm around assen. This changes everything now...rossi knows now that it is possible to win again. Thats gotta be a huge relief and weight off. I dont think rossi is in the hunt for the title by any means, but now he is in the hunt for more wins, and that is great for the show. On the flip side, danis average performance coupled with lorenzos unbelievable grit and determination, probably have added weight to his shoulders. At least he extended his lead, but im sure he was expecting more than that...without lorenzo it would have been 13 points, instead of a measly 2. Pedrosa has been demoralized by the same amount that rossi has been lifted up. Great ride by jorge...tough as nails...thats the mindset of a champ. One of the reasons rossi has won so many championships has been his ability to avoid serious injury. That is the x factor...rainey would only 1 world title if doohan didnt get injured for those 2 years...but dani may have had a title by now as well, for the same reasons. jorge has also been lucky so far...good ride by cal as well...did what was expected...then he opens his mouth and says he could have challenged for the win if only....closing on guys at the end of a race when they are easing off is not a true indicator of ones ability. He should be proud of his podium and leave it at that, and be gratefull he didnt bin it trying to play with marquez. Bring on germany...another good rossi, pedrosa and lorenzo track. Dani needs to get some points on jorge before he heals or else jorge will steal the title from him. This is danis year and his best chance...

@ colonel claw...

there's something slightly bizarre about seeing a satellite Yam overtaking a factory Honda piloted by one of the best riders in the world................................... Lin Jarvis, more or less, said that Cal was on a full factory bike when he spoke to the BBC earlier on. Cal hasn't been whingeing about being on inferior equipment lately so that sort of backs it up IMO. Nice race today.
