Dani Pedrosa rues missed opportunity in Assen

If the MotoGP world title continues to elude Dani Pedrosa at the end of 2013, the Spaniard might well look back on yesterday’s Assen race as a game changing moment. With main title rival Jorge Lorenzo well short of 100% fitness after he broke his left collarbone in a high-speed practice crash on Thursday, the 26-lap race was a golden opportunity...

It might have been a missed opportunity but I reckon he will bounce back at Sachsenring in two weekends time I say this because he goes well there and not to mention he has won at the circuit in his last three visits but hope Yamaha breaks his dominance as its a track which suits their bike.

"If anyone should be worried it should be Yamaha.."

They lead the constructor's championship despite the fact that their No.1 rider, who gallantly rode to 5th place this weekend, is carrying an injury & have the top Satellite team by far. Rossi stepped up to the plate this weekend & did what Yamaha pay him for, backed up by Cal. They now have 4 out of 7 wins.

hugelean,

surely you know the score on this forum, no-one but no-one is allowed a bad day .

Dani had a reasonable weekend, he kept his nearest challenger (to date) behind thereby extending his lead but yes, he could have won and extended it further.

but he didn't, so now it's on to the next round and while all and sundry on here are squabbling over minutae the racers will be knuckling down at Sachsenring hoping to change their fortunes, better their already good fortunes or crashing out and damaging themselves, all these things are possible and demonstrably so this weekend.

bike racings hard and dangerous, i can't criticise Dani for not pushing as he's the one whose neck is on the line after all, not mine.

Dani Pedrosa

Its all about chipping away and getting more points!

Dani rode well and increased his lead in the championship.

Rossi, Marques and Cal rode well too! But they aren't as consistent week in week out as Dani is hence they are not leading the championship.

At first blush

I thought the same as Wosi. Perhaps Pedrosa has been unsure whether to attack or defend in recent races. But then you look at the way he tore off the line and by his own admission nearly binned the thing in the first few corners and you have to say the desire to win is there alright.

What Pedro does have problems with obviously is making the tyres last. You can only ride as fast as your equipment (especially tyres) will let you. This is certainly something Pedro and Leitner need to focus better on going forward. As when Dani has it all dialled he's untouchable - always has been.

Dani probably didn't get the points he wanted, but at a track where Jorge would have expected to take back the lead in the title chase and one of the yams best tracks. A track that Dani is also notoriously average at, he managed to extend his lead. It's a massive result for Dani and Honda it not as good as it could have been.

Missed opportunity for who?

If Jorge hadn't touched that white line in the wet and Cal not had his customary poor start and felt the need to tip-toe around Jorge ... then .... it could very well have been a Yamaha blue-out on the weekend.

As fans we should all be pleased with the result - a fourth winner this year and signs that we may get a fifth before the season is out.  Also there is no obviously dominant rider/bike combination, so with a bit of luck the championship will go right down to the wire.

What's not to like???
