Valentino Rossi ranks Assen win as one of best ever

Valentino Rossi ranked his 80th MotoGP victory in an enthralling Assen race yesterday (Saturday) as one of the best of his career after he rolled back the years to win for the first time since 2010. Winless since the Sepang race in Malaysia 32 months ago, Rossi controlled the 26-lap Dutch TT from the sixth lap to notch an incredible 106th...

Yep, a good result for Yamaha and for JL, under the circumstances. It has kept the championship wide open and hopefully the following races are close and competitive, especially now that Rossi appears to have the bike sorted, this leaves 5 of them as possible race winners.

now rossi remembers

how to win. He obviously wont win every weekend, and probably isnt in the championship hunt this year, but he has gotten his mojo back, and will now be more consistently competitive. Hopefully the big plus to come from this is he will qualify better. Better qualifying will allow him to fight more often with the spaniards...and if they start taking points off each other....rossi now knows that he can be there to take advantage. Roll on germany...another favorite of rossi's, and another potential problem for jorge, due to its counter clockwise nature.

Bike Sorted

Not sure which is more important in terms of Rossi's bike improvements.

Better handling on a full tank - means the leaders won't get away so quickly.

Better braking - quite possibly the factor which will help any situation, from qually, to making up lost time, to better performance all around.

These, plus the win, are all confidence improvements which will auger well for the rest of the year. Even if Jorge or Dani get away he now has the tools to catch them and have a go - he's not afraid to push and take calculated risks to get a podium or race win.

I'm very excited about the rest of the season now.

2nd half of the season will be interesting. Despite Yamaha's 'dominance' so far Dani is actually ahead in the title chase when he was 40 points behind this time last year. That suggests in the 2nd half of the season he'll also be stronger, which left Jorge competing for 2nd place only. Jorge will have a lot more competition for 2nd this time around with Rossi and Marquez, and it will be interesting to see if Rossi and Marquez can make the inroads Jorge couldn't. Especially Rossi on the yam, Jorge was a dead duck in the water last year.

Great race

Rossi knew what he had to do. Hit the front then control the gap. Marquez did really well considering his hand injury. Cal made a balls of the first few laps. He blames the bike saying how he could win every week if he had a full factory bike ( lin jarvis says he has). Cal just wants a factory salary and would race a moped to get it. Pedro needed to capitalise on JL being injured but failed miserably. As usual MM showed him up. I laughed when mm passed pedro and the honda team looked so unhappy. Man of the race was Lorenzo for sheer guts.

After two hard years Rossi deserves it a great weekend overall and I am a Yamaha fan too which makes it more special Jorge defying the odds and Cal making it on the podium. Bring on the Sachensring hopefully it be exciting like it was at Assen.

Great ride by Valentino. Sachsenring is stop and go, Pedrosa is verry good there. If Rossi can stay with Dani in the race there, the Doctor is trully back in business .

I spose it's been so bloody long he probably forgot when he had his last one!

Someone look at the record books for me, 3 years on full factory machinery without a win, 2 1/2 of those as team no.1 ... now is that some sort of record or what?

just watched

The race again...anyone who says that was boring is an asshole! Rossi wins after two years, awesome!!, marquez showing his mettle by holding off crutchlow, crutchlow battling back to pass factory honda and almost pass marquez( we all know that was not going to happen...marquez is crazy enough to do anything to not let it!), dani having a horrible weekend to blow championship wide open( im bitter about that...dani deserves a title, and this is the only year left that he has a chance...if he doesnt win this year, hes done...randy mamola anyone?), and lorenzo battling against freaking inhuman odds to ONLY lose 2 points in championship! How does it get anynbetter than that? Dani better look out...Rossi may just steal sachsenring too...rossi is well acustomed to back to back wins, and now he remembers how to...

NOBODY COMPETITIF ENOUGH

this is why stoner said, "nobody competitive enough to beat him in his previous 5 years WC achieve."

stoner retire, Lorenzo injured, and suddenly rossi took 1st winner. boring.

don't worry 46ers, he can take another 1st cause Lorenzo not fully 100%. be happy about it while you still can.
