Cool but naff, & naff but cool.

Here's an idea pinched from a car site (Hooniverse.com, although they do occasionally have "Two-wheel Tuesday"). I'm not sure it'll work here with bikes but here goes.

Which bike, generally regarded as cool, leaves you cold?

Which bike, commonly regarded as naff, do you secretly like?

Mine are:

Leaves me cold:
Honda NR750.

Naff but I sort of like: BMW K1

"Cool"

complicates things. Cool to me means a kind of effortless charm, but its not necessarily the same as desirable.

Bikes that are not dynamically adept, yet cool, to my mind are things like Bonnies, Harley Sportsters (esp the 48), custom bobbers, and the like. The problem with such bikes is often their riders are the ones treying too hard to be cool and want to be cool by association (which really dilutes the cool).

I'm never sure that the top level sportsbikes count as "cool" - too much effort too much reliance on numbers, like Subaru Imprezzas: bloody impressive but not exactly cool.

Some bikes are very stylish / good looking but may leave me devoid of the desire to actually have one.

So, naff but cool - Indian 741

Popular but leaves me cold - GSXR 1000

not sure if you'd call

MT01 naff  but obviously not everyone's cup of tea but I love it.

Not to keen on all the litre bikes so much now as they are all a bit samey but the one I really don't get is  the Penegale

I'll stand back and take cover now.

Panigale

looks pretty, but I don't want one.

RSV4 looks nice, but I don't want one.

Litre (or 600 / 750) sportsbikes are sublime at what they do, but I don't wanna do what they do, so I don't want one.

Oddly, I do really like the RC8, but can't explain why.

I really like - Kawasaki Drifters (oh joy, seen as evil customs by most; and cheap Indian-rip-offs by the custom scene; but I like 'em); Kwak W900 (ditto); Yamaha Bolt (ditto), and Raider (ditto); Bonnevilles, pretty much everything in the HD and Victory ranges (though not the Vision, and I'd prefer a Streetglide or Roadking to the Ultra Classic); Ducati Monsters and Guzzi 1200sport; the previous version of the KTM Duke 690; the 90s Triumph Thunderbird SPort; and the BMW R1200R (like the RC8, I can't really tell you why).

So, my taste - simple, unfaired, unimpressive in performance terms, and not too bland looking.

Trying too hard?
Certainly different and in the right setting could be cool. Not sure that the right setting is anywhere 'round my way though....

forgot about that,I can't quite make my mind up about it, not sure if the bike is hideous and I should not like it because, or am I scared to say I like it for fear of death:shock:
