Dutch TT Dashboard

With the Hondas suffering in Holland and Lorenzo set back by injury, it was the return of the King at Assen as Valentino Rossi took his first win in two years. See how it's affected the championship.

Jesus..

..every single time, whatever the track, those Repsol bikes are top of the speed traps.

I reckon Lorenzo would be winning races by 20 seconds if he was on one.

top speed means nothing - its how it gets there and how fast you can go round corners that matters. remember the days of Lawson and Kanemoto, the honda was fast but handled like a pig beofre they got there hands on it. Wayne Rainey won three striaght titles on the 'slow' yamaha

To be fair Guy..I think HRC have learnt a thing or two about chassis building since then.

Not to mention electronics and slick transmission.

The bikes are close(Yamaha) but Honda has the edge. Like Ducati in 07..if they get 'em on the straight and can't be got themselves, they can hold 'em up in the corners..most of the time.

The riders at Yamaha are making the difference now..young Smith aside for obvious reasons.

The Hondas

are fast, but they don't manage tyre wear like the Yamahas do.

"Top speed... ...won a championship for Ducati in '07"

... or rather lack of it lost it? Rossi had a distinct lack of top speed in 2007 being out gunned by his team mate, satellite bikes & other makes as he has here... the 2007 Ducati wasn't significantly faster than its Honda, Suzuki or Kawasaki rivals & often some Yamahas... in fact the Honda was faster at several circuits. Why is Rossi so much slower than Smith & how come he still managed to win the race? Proof there's more to it than top speed alone, it's clear that braking from those higher speeds has its own problems as we saw in 2007.

Success..

If success is judged on qualifying very poorly and making up a few places to finish just inside the top ten - then yes.. Dovi was the second most successful. Don't particularly blame him though - sadly the blame lies firmly at Ducati's door. I do wonder what is going on inside Ducati HQ these days - the MotoGP bike isn't competitive and the WSB machine also isn't doing the business either. Bit of a shame.
