Mechanic

Although on the face of it main dealers look expensive, they are often still a good choice.  At least you know the work will be done properly and you'll have some comeback against future issues.  They are also in the best position to give you a proper diagnosis.

Worth calling them before tying elsewhere just to see what they say.

i second what marcus said

but then again, any mechanic has to guarantee any repair work done, ,,, I know a very friendly nice guy in north weald, North weald motorcycles, you could at least give him a call and have a chat, it doesn't hurt ,,,,the guys name is, Mike 01992 523019 he's there from 8 am till 6pm sometimes later, if he asks, say the guy on the black ER6f who always pops in just to drink the coffee and chat , recommended him

Clutch

If the clutch has gone you'll probably want that done by a BMW specialist. (Even if it's an independent rather than a main dealer)  On the BMW flat twins that is a specialist job as the rear half the bike has to be dismantled to complete the work.

The other thing it could possibly be in final drive failure. This is not unknown and if the bike has a BMW service history you may get some contribution towards the costs from BMW as a goodwill gesture - it has been known even when out of warranty.

Let us know how you get on.
