German MotoGP: Lorenzo crashes, bends plate in shoulder

World champion Jorge Lorenzo crashed heavily today out of the second free practice session for the German Grand prix at Sachsenring, having set the fastest time of the day in the opening session. Lorenzo, already riding with a broken and plated collarbone following a heroic Assen race, has damaged the titanium plate inserted into his shoulder last month, and will potentially...

I'm guessing you missed the Motegi race that season then? Could Rossi have challenged Lorenzo for the WC if he hadn't broken his leg at Mugello? I'd say yes as there wasn't much in it before Mugello...

Well Chupa

You could say that Lorenzo only put up a half hearted fight because he was riding for the title and didn't need to risk crashing  to ride for places or wins, just points. After all, that's the reason Wosi has constantly barked about and given for Stoner winning towards the end of the 2010 season.

If you wanted to put out a constant argument that is...

If it was half-hearted...

...he could have just waved him past but he decided to go toe-to toe with Rossi before finally backing off and letting Rossi take the spoils. Not taking anything away from Lorenzo but there was no real point in fighting with Rossi only for him to back down again when he realised Rossi was up for a dogfight...

Jorge took the wrong bike

Rossi's people copped on to the fact that their bike had been tampered with, and switched it with Jorges, two weekends running. That bike was supposed to spit Vale off :)

and yet

Cal crashed twice in practice for Sachsenring, then rode an excellent measured race.

They all crash in practice all the time, it is a matter of luck or relative lack of fragility how bad the injuries are.

I would go with the machismo call on Jorge, going as flat -out as he was and attempting to dominate the timesheets in practice from the get-go was ill advised so soon after the collar bone injury, given he would still have had pain from the unhealed fracture and likely the concurrent soft tissue injury.
