Cal Crutchlow not upset to miss out on maiden win

Cal Crutchlow may still be seeking to end Britain’s 32-year winless run in the MotoGP world championship but denied he had missed a golden chance to claim a first premier win in Germany yesterday (Sunday). The British rider produced one of the best performances of his career at the Sachsenring to fight his way back from sixth to second, passing Assen...

Well done Cal!

He had a cracking race, if he can start getting off the line a bit better, he has a real chance to go for a win. Bartman, well said good summary of the situation. Wosi....feck is it your time of the month?

What was that thing

about oversensitive fanboys Wosi?

Most of these guys (obviously not including Valentino) are hardly sophisticates, and to subject their every utterance to such exegesis is unfair imo. Cal certainly, like another rider you didn't like, is more at the stream of consciousness/first thing he thinks of end of things as an interviewee, sometimes to his own detriment, but as you say he was formerly a van driver, rather than a professor of philosophy or philology at Oxford.

He may have intended his comment about Valentino being no slouch to be ironic or obvious understatement anyway, but you can't in any case reasonably expect him when full of adrenaline after just riding an excellent race to include 5 minutes of recognition of Valentino in a post race interview just to keep you happy.

Cal's a big boy DF..he can say what he wants and more often than not does..same as wosi, who is hardly on his own in pointing out he's got a big gob, that is apparently not doing him any favours trying to convince the factories he's worth a punt for alien money.

Some of us aren't flag-waving sheep my friend and are prepared to call it as we see it..a spade is a spade not a shovel.

It is indeed ironic that you feel, as an Aussie, well placed to lecture on such affairs.

yes benny

whatever you say Benny.

His vicious and uncontrolled 2 word outburst reflected very badly on the Tech 3 team and their sponsors.

Statistics, damned statistics

It was Mark Twain who said, "People use statistics as a drunk uses a lamp post; for support rather than illumination."

Having said that, the statistics do look good for Cal. After 8 races, he has 107 points. In 2012, it was 85. In 2011, it was only 32. The great comparison which has always been cast up is that of Dovi on the same bike in 2012. His points after 8 races? 92. As I said, the statistics look good.

I confess that Cal's performance and that of the other rookie had somewhat blinded me to what Bradley is doing. In his first season, he already has 51 points, 19 more that Cal at the same stage and seems to be learning fast. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Fair comment Benny

Cal, as a top international sportsman should know how to speak to the media and his skills in that PR area are a little weak. In other areas, they are strong. His aggressive riding, easy going nature and humour all play an important role in the Crutchlow package and I for one think he's doing a great job and certainly worthy of a decent Works bike. Any Team with seats coming available this year should be snapping him up and those without the available seats will be kicking themselves as he is one of the main blokes in this paddock. He has far more exposure to the cameras than most (Vale at the top of the list) including the Repsol boys and is a sponsors dream.

ffs wosi

Cal made an oblique reference to Valentino, has never said anything to suggest he thinks he is better than Valentino, and was not triumphal about actually beating Valentino in this race. If he can improve his starts as he has improved his passing over the course of this season, he might really go places, which is what I think he was mainly contemplating if you want my interpretation based on nothing, to match your similarly drawn implication.

Again, this comes down to whether he said no slouch, or "no slouch". If every even oblique reference to Valentino requires 5 minutes of qualifying statements about how great Valentino is in general, how Cal would never have beaten him except on a bad day etc the post race interviews are going to become fairly lengthy.

The man is

less opinionated than most of the all knowing oracles on here. He is good for the sport as he isn't on this years bike, he is getting podiums and he doesn't act like a corporate robot. Even Vale in an interview to the wprlds press said of Marquez, "that bastard is fucking quick", not his usual way of doing things, bit of Cal rubbing off.
