I never saw it as that tough a decision for Cal. Stick with Yamaha and never get a bike that is quite good enough to win a championship or go to Ducati and get a bike that has a tiny chance of winning a championship AND a wad of cash.

What's he got to lose?

Would appear that a factory (Yamaha) engine isn't enough, for a satelite to fully compete with a 'full factory' set-up. 

So on the premiss that Ducati can only improve, what does Cal have to lose? I 'personaly' believe he has the riding skills, to turn an improved Ducati into a GP success.
