Dont s'pose I'll get an answer but

thinking of getting a 1200 roadster possibly next spring and just wondered if there was anything I should know about the sportster. Things like cost of servicing, reliability.....yes yes yes I've heard all the rubbish on the general board and places about em being crap but I want the truth from someone who has one or has had one so come on, there must be someone out there? helloooooooooow? :p

harley davidson 1200 sportster

hi, i own and ride a 2002 1200 sportster and i am more than happy with the bike.I changed the brake pads and rear suspension legs and it stops and rides beautiful. I get my bike serviced regularly at Lerock in mansfield, notts.tel 01623-632266 and am really happy with both the cost and the work.2,500 7,500 12,500etc £30-84+oil and filter£56-64. 5,000 15,000etc £132-69. Personally i would buy the bike, if you contact Lerock ask for kev or suzanne.Good luck and safe riding.latom.

Got 4 weeks to go [counting the days] 'till I get my new sporty and can't wait. Getting it from Sycamore HD in Uppingham by the way as they offered me by far the best trade in on the big Z. Been reading a good few reports on the 1200 and 883 sportster but your the first to actualy say what it costs to run one, most helpful, much appreciated. This time last year I was waiting to take delivery of a Kwak ZZR1200 after trading in a Bandit12 and was really looking forward to riding a bike with a full fairing but I have to say that apart from the thrill of hitting 130+ speeds and not getting my head blown off I was disappointed with the thing and after an engine problem [see ZZR1200 board] I decided to get rid and get that Harley I'd been talking about having since about 1971. Now all I want is a nice long hot/dry summer so I can do all my 'California dreaming' on my Harley. :p

picked the bike up on March 1st.

First impressions? Not too good as it happens. Riding home from Uppingham to Leicester on the A47, a road I would normally have travelled at speeds in the region of 70-110mph I was doing 45-55mph and freezing my butt off!!! OK it was the coldest day this winter and being new the bike had to be kept down to between 2 & 3000rpm but dear God.......... not a good start on a new toy. Once into town traffic and 30 mph things got better, the low down grunt meant I was leaving most other traffic way behind at the traffic lights and the handling/cornering esp. when taking into acount the new tyres was pretty good, feeling better about the bike now I've had time to analise my thoughts/impressions. Now I need some nice warm days to put some miles on the bright yellow beasty. :)

Whats the latest on the Joys of HD ownership then? Went into Chapel Ash HD in Wolverhampton last week - they were just prepping the first of their 2007 range ready for an open day last weekend. Boy oh boy do I fancy a Dyna, one with the new bigger engine, praps a street Bob. bit to expensive though... as is the new Night Rod special... what a machine!! The new sportsters are nice too.... oh well dream on.... ;)

hey Mr. Rabbit...........

the sporty is nice. Loud even with standard pipes and very yellow. lol Great fun to ride both in town and out in the country so all told a good buy but.................... Harley UK/HOG sent me some bumf, magazine etc. and in it were details of the new for 07 bikes. The new Sporty sounds good with its fuel injection and other mods, maybe worth a look? but as you say, that Dyna street Rod with it's 96 cubic inch engine or maybe the Dyna custom or Low Rider? in black ;) ooooowweeeeeee, my wallet, credit card etc. are now seriously worried. :p

you confirmed

my suspiscion that HD ownership is addictive... I'm on the lookout for something, getting the Zed serviced tommorrow so I'll check on poss trade in value as a ball park figure.. As usual money's the restriction at present... Some guy in Aberyswyth got a blue '04 sporty 1200 for sale for about £4.5k which seems about right... xcept I got this thing about having a big V which seem to start at £6k for anything no matter what condition or age.... I'll keep looking. You thinking of joining the Wabbit Wideout 9th/10th Sept?

£4:500 for a 1200 sporty

sounds a fair price so long as it's been looked after, serviced and such. does it have any add ons? stage one, loud pipes etc. or is it bog standard? Re the ride out: doubt it as I am a carer and can't really plan too far ahead or stray too far from home.... gotta be within mobile range [no prob] but if I'm needed I'm needed like right now sort of thing. Best of luck in your hunt for a Harley and getting a good price for your Kwak, I'm sure you wont regret it if you get a HOG. they take some gettin used to but once the bug bites your gone. :p
