Arrow "Road" can fails MOT.....

just back from the MOT test. got a full Arrow system fitted. came with race and road cans. Road can only gets fitted for MOT tests and has passed for the last 2 years. Its E marked, TUV tested etc and sold as road legal. BUT.....new MOT rules effective June 04 state quote" A silencer that is in such a condition OR is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition" unquote. Despite only doing about 100 miles from new, no leaks, no damage, corrossion etc, it failed for being too loud! Good job I did nt try the race can..BEWARE....you could be next.

update

the nice man from VOSA came and inspected my bike today. did a very thorough test and passed the can as OK. Apparently the "E mark" is no longer required or taken as conforming to regulations (due to silencers with removeable baffles, DIY "E mark" plates and general deviousness by bikers)

poor test standard

I had the same issue. I have a LeoVince GP Pro end can fitted to my '08 blade. Took it for it's first MOT last week and it failed on being too noisey. The can is E marked and the manufacturer says it is road legal. I spent a couple of hours refitting the original can, retesting and then fitting the GP Pro again. I don't see how it can be a fair test if it is left to the judgement of a tester. One tester may be a little deaf (i'm gonna find one of these for next year!) and another could have perfect hearing. They should be tested using a decibel meter at a certain distance at a certain rpm like they do for track days. I feel like someone has robbed me, not sure if it's VOSA or Leo Vince!!!!!!
