I got my full license 26 years ago and had a CB50J and then a GSX250. My bike career ended during College when I had no money... My first bike for 23 years was a Honda Deauville which got replaced by the ER6F quickly (too big and difficult to ride in traffic/wind) with an ER6F. My daily commute is 58 miles each way so range is important to me - currently I fill up every day. I accumulate something like 16000 miles a year an spend a lot on tyres and servicing and know the garage staff very well...
