Knockhill BSB: Shakey storms to race 1 win

1 of 1

Reigning champion Shane Byrne stormed to victory in race one at Knockhill today ahead of Tyco Suzuki racer Josh Brookes.

Brookes led for most of the race, until Byrne made a move at the hairpin on lap 24 that didn’t stick, banging fairings with Brookes in the process as he ran hot out fo the turn.. However, he soon managed to push past, and immediatly pulled out a lead of a second that he maintained until the flag.

Alex Lowes was an early third place, until a highside at the hairpin on lap 16 promoted his Samsung Honda teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari to an unlikely podium finish.

Byrne’s Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki teammate Keith Farmer was 4th, ahead of Chris Walker and James Westmoreland.

Byrne said afterwards “Braking for the hairpin is over a crest, and I made my move and got a little out of shape. I had to let the brake off and i was already up the side of josh, and I got caught on his bike a tiny bit!”
