Aitchison left high and dry after Spitlath Redmond put on hold

Australian racer Mark Aitchison has been left ‘high and dry’ following the shock withdrawal of his Spitlath Redmond Aprilia team less than a month before the start of the 2013 British Superbike season.

The team released a statement a few weeks ago announcing their temporary retirement from the championship due to the ill health of co-owner  John Dimbylow. 

Fellow co-owner Derek Redmond explained in the statement that “it is with great regret that Splitlath Redmond is announcing its temporary retirement from BSB. This is due to the ill health of John Dimbylow and both John and I would like to stress that this is a temporary measure.”

However, former WSB rider Aitchinson has told MCN that he isn’t confident that the team will take to the track at all in 2013.

“If I’m honest I don’t think anything will happen this year. Basically I’m now im a position where I need to look for another job.”

Having only arrived in the UK last Saturday in preparation for last week’s testing at Donington, he now has less than two weeks to find a new ride – but admits that he wants to remain in BSB.

“My idea is to stay in BSB – I started the project last year, and when you start a project you want to try and see it through.”

The 2013 season begins on the 5th April at Brands Hatch.
