Rossi replacement set to be announced

Yamaha is set to announce that Wataru Yoshikawa will replace Valentino Rossi while he recovers from his broken shin sustained at Mugello.

Yoshikawa, a test rider for the Yamaha factory, will ride in Rossi’s absence, starting from the next round at Assen.

41-year old Yoshikawa has won Japanese Superbike championships, and ridden in World Superbikes. In 2002 he also rode as a wildcard at the Pacific GP finishing 12th.

He will ride until Rossi’s return, scheduled for Brno on August 15.

its a shite choice ,, you know they could of got mccoy...... now that would be a nice sight hes been succesful before on yamaha ijust dont get it ................ they obviously dont want any1 thats going to be great on the bike but ???????????????????????im one of moto gps biggest fans but this really doesnt help in whats slowly becomeing a dull series ,,, dare i say it . i suggested mccoy because of his out of control style woul inject some glamour in to this sport again regards all

What a let down. Safe decision for the team and their engine allocation maybe. But Boring and dull for the fans. seriously Toseland was never going to happen but couldn't they have brought one of the experienced riders back up from Moto2? At a time when the sport desperatley needs to create some buzz and excitement about itself is the best Yamaha can come up with? a 41 year old test rider to stroke the bike round and keep the seat warm for Rossis' return?

I approve this choice but I must agree with RawDawg, they could've found someone younger than 41. For the people suggesting bringing the likes of Gibernau, Bayliss, McCoy... would you just put anyone on the best bike in the world and have them go back to their daily lives in possession of valuable data/feedback? You might as well just publish your technical data to your rivals....
