Aspar to remain biggest squad in MotoGP paddock

Spain’s high-profile Aspar squad will retain its status as the biggest squad in the Grand Prix paddock next season having confirmed plans to enter the new Moto3 four-stroke series in 2012.

The team, run by Jorge ‘Aspar’ Martinez, is the only squad to have involvement in all three classes and it has already confirmed plans to extend its MotoGP presence in 2012 by running a two-rider Ducati effort.

The Moto3 class replaces the current two-stroke 125GP class and Sporting Director Gino Borsoi told MCN: “125s for us now is the best image for the team because every race we are fighting for the podium. We think that next season that we want to race with teams in Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP. If we have Moto3 and Moto2 then we can fight for the world championship.”

The Aspar squad though has yet to decide which bike it will run in Moto3 and Borsoi added: “Now it is very difficult to decide. Moto2 was a little bit easier to understand because the engine is the same for everybody and you can just concentrate on the chassis. Now you must concentrate on both. If the chassis is not so good you can change quite quickly. But if the engine has some problem then you keep that problem for the whole season, so it is not an easy decision.”
