Misano 125GP: Terol denies Zarco victory at the finish line

1 of 1

Nicolas Terol (Bankia Aspar Team) seized his seventh win of the season and denied Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) his first GP win in the final seconds of the race at Misano, emerging from the slipstream to pass the Frenchman as Zarco was peering over his shoulder in a last ditch attempt to maintain the lead.

Terol led from the start, with pole sitter Zarco soon chasing the championship leader, piling the pressure on the Spaniard before making a pass with six laps remaining. Zarco seemingly allowed Terol to re-take the lead before the pair swapped positions several times in the final laps. Fighting through the final corners Zarco was leading Terol, with his first GP win looking imminent, before Terol managed to get the drive out of the final corner to take victory and extend his championship lead to 31 points.

Zarco’s team mate Efren Vazquez secured third early on and rode consistently to secure a podium finish, whilst Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo MotorSport) had been riding well in fourth before a hard pass by Sandro Cortese (Intact-Racing Team Germany) saw the Brit relegated to fifth. The battle for fourth continued throughout the race and culminated with Cortese maintaining the position, Hector Faubel (Bankia Aspar Team) taking fifth, Danny Kent securing sixth and Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing rider Maverick Vinales in seventh, ahead of team mate Sergio Gadea in eighth.
