Danny Kent to get training tips from James Toseland

Danny Kent will embark on a rigorous training regime with former World Superbike champion James Toseland to build up strength ahead of his first season in the Moto2 world championship in 2013.

The British teenager kicked off his 2013 pre-season preparations with a test double header in Valencia and Albacete last week on board the Tech 3 Racing Mistral 610 machine.

Kent, who enjoyed a breakthrough 2012 with two victories in the final four Moto3 races, enjoyed a positive start to his Moto2 career, the 18-year-old confidently adjusting to the extra weight and power of the Moto2 machine.

The main difference Kent found was the extra physical power required to muscle the Moto2 bike around, particularly in fast changes of direction.

He had already planned to hook up with former Monster Yamaha Tech 3 MotoGP rider Toseland in the winter to build his upper body strength.

But he said it would be even more important to tap into Toseland’s experience and training methods to help home cope with the more physically demanding Moto2 category.

The former Red Bull KTM Moto3 rider told MCN: “I definitely need to do some training in the winter. It is not a fitness issue but I need to build up some strength and muscle because the bike is a lot heavier and changing direction is really difficult and physical. I was aching a little bit after the first test, particularly my upper body. I’ve been working on my strength but I need to do more.

I’m going to be working a lot with James. He has got a lot of strength, so I will be in the gym a lot with him. James was really good at preparing himself through the winter, so I am sure I can learn a lot from him and training with him is going to be a big help.”

Kent and Toseland are good pals as both are managed by former racer Roger Burnett.
