Colin Edwards unsure of MotoGP future

American veteran Colin Edwards admits he is unsure if he will still be racing in MotoGP in 2014.

The Texan’s Forward Racing squad will lease Yamaha YZR-M1 engines for next season but there has been no confirmation on whether Edwards or Italian teammate Claudio Corti will be offered new deals.

Edwards will be 40 by the time the 2014 world championship gets underway and he has no intention of stepping away from racing.

But he hinted that if he couldn’t secure a MotoGP ride then it is unlikely he will give serious consideration to a return to World Superbikes for the first time since he clinched the 2002 title with a dramatic final round triumph over Troy Bayliss in Imola.
Edwards has been racing a Kawasaki ZX-10R motor in a British-built FTR frame in 2013 and he has scored points in four out of eight races so far with a best of ninth in Catalunya last month.

Speaking on the eve of his home race at the Laguna Seca track in California, the double World Superbike champion said: “I don’t have anything at the moment. I would like to stay with the team that I’m with and they are working on something for next year. It’s a package that should have much better performance. I’ve done two years with them and would like do another year on a better package. There are better packages out there and it just comes down to money. If you have the budget you can do more. I’m still motivated and having a good time.  But if I’m not in MotoGP it would be hard to go to another championship and race motorcycles.”
