Scott Redding fifth in final Moto2 test

British rider Scott Redding ended the final winter test for the Moto2 world championship in fifth position at the Jerez track in Spain.

With his testing schedule already completed at the end of day three yesterday, the Marc VDS Racing rider didn’t even venture out in bright and sunny conditions today.
But his best time of 1.43.372 was still good enough to secure him fifth on the combined timesheets and he was less than 0.3s away from Julian Simon in third spot.

The Gloucestershire rider was 0.736s behind fastest rider Pol Espargaro, who once again showed why he will head to the first race in Qatar early next month as overwhelming favourite to capture the Moto2 world title.

The Spaniard topped the test with a best of 1.42.636, which was the only sub-1.43 lap during the test and put him almost 0.5s clear of Japan’s Takaaki Nakagami.
Danny Kent finished the final test in 20th position after he managed to set his best pace in the final session this afternoon.

Riding the Tech 3 Racing Mistral 610 machine, the two-times Moto3 race winner logged a best time of 1.44.350 to finish 1.714s off the best pace but just over 0.5s off the top 10.

Kyle Smith’s best lap of 1.45.314 put him 28th on the timesheets.
