Scott Redding: ‘I need to keep pounding the pressure on’

Scott Redding says it will be vital for him to keep piling the pressure on his Moto2 rivals when his quest to extend his world championship lead continues at the spectacular Mugello track in Italy this weekend.

The British rider arrives in Tuscany brimming with confidence after he ended his long search for a Moto2 victory when he triumphed last time out in the French round at the historic Le Mans track.

With title rivals Esteve Rabat, Pol Espargaro and Takaaki Nakagami all making mistakes in tricky conditions at Le Mans, the Marc VDS Racing rider goes into the fifth round of the championship with a healthy 24-point lead.

Redding, who has only finished outside of the top two once in the opening four races of 2013, told MCN: “I don’t want to think I’ve won a race and that’s it. A lot of people will be looking at me now but I think a lot of people will be thinking my first win would have come sooner. Now they know I can win they’ll be thinking what else has this kid got?

“I need to be consistent and getting good points every race. In Texas I could have pushed the tyres more and destroyed them and maybe I wouldn’t have finished. I raced with my head there and took the points.

“I like Mugello but the key thing is not letting off the pressure of the other guys. I need to keep pounding the pressure on.”
