Marc Marquez not concerned by fast starting Jorge Lorenzo

MotoGP world championship leader Marc Marquez says he is not overly concerned with Jorge Lorenzo’s fast starting strategy that helped the factory Yamaha rider claim back-to-back wins in Silverstone and Misano.

Lorenzo’s all-out attack strategy has always been a key tactic of the Spaniard but his win in Misano earlier this month perfectly demonstrated his speed from the off when he led by more than two seconds after just three laps.

That gave the reigning world champion the perfect opportunity to control the race from the front and manage his advantage to the chequered flag, with Marquez and HRC teammate Dani Pedrosa unable to bridge the gap Lorenzo established in the initial laps.

Marquez, who heads into this weekend’s Motorland Aragon clash in Spain with a 34-point lead over Lorenzo and Pedrosa, said he would not to review his tactics when asked by MCN during last week’s one-day test session in Misano.

Marquez said: “I think it depends on the setting because in Brno I wasn’t able to follow him and in Silverstone I could even with the problem of my shoulder. But here (Misano) was where we struggled more and I don’t know why but we struggled with the entry of the corner and with the full tank it was much worse.

That’s the reason why in one lap I was very fast but at the start I was struggling a bit more. It depends on the set-up and the type of circuit but I always feel strong in the beginning of the race. But it is true though that this is Jorge’s strategy.”
