Former World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty has given his full backing to James Toseland as he returns to the WSB series chasing Foggy’s record of four world titles.

Toseland already has two world titles to his name after winning for Ducati in 2004 and Honda in 2007 – now he has set his sights on beating Foggy’s record of 59 race wins and four world titles.

Toseland has currently competed in 168 WSB races with 16 wins on the way to two titles.

Toseland says beating Foggy’s record is his prime motivation.

Speaking exclusively to MCN, Foggy said: “I really wish him all the best in beating my record and I wish him all the luck in the world. I hope he goes on to win a load of titles.

“I’m not that impressed with my own record of four titles because I would have liked to have won more in my career.

“James has got the talent and the motivation and with the right backing and the right package I can easily see him taking six or more world titles.

“I don’t want to get into comparing the championship today to what it was like because it’s so different.

“There have been a couple of lean years back when there were no Japanese factories involved but it’s really tough in WSB now.

“I hope all the Brits do really well as it makes us all look good and it’s a credit to British racing.”
