Tardozzi confirms switch to BMW World Superbike squad

Former Xerox Ducati boss, Davide Tardozzi has joined BMW to become the team manager of the factory World Superbike squad.

Tardozzi has enjoyed an illustrious career with Ducati having won WSB crowns with Carl Fogarty, Neil Hodgson, James Toseland and Troy Bayliss.

The 50 year old Italian left Ducati at the end of the 2009 season citing the need for a new challenge as the reason and within a matter of weeks has found a new role with BMW.

Tardozzi has made a three year deal with the German manufacturer, which begun on 1st January 2010.

An official announcement is expected later this week, but speaking exclusively to MCN Tardozzi said:

“This is a new year and a new challenge. It will be a very big challenge though because next year will be a very tough season and right now if you look at all the manufacturers in the championship – BMW are the last.

“But I am confident that we can grow in the overall rankings very quickly. The team learned a lot in 2009 and with some small changes we can be very competitive. I think both Troy and Ruben are very fast riders and that as a team we can fight for the podium in 2010 and then for the championship in 2010.”

Tardozzi will make his first appearance as the BMW team manager in the WSB in paddock latter this month at the three day official test at Portimao.
