Sykes fuming after Superpole fiasco

Tom Sykes has blasted WSB race organisers for their decision to stop the final Superpole session and then restart it after declaring it wet.

Moments before the red flags were shown, Sykes had set a stunning 2m 03s lap – the fastest ever Superbike lap and was set for another pole position.

The decision to cancel the session and restart it meant that Sykes’ stunning lap was null and void.

Speaking to MCN, he said: “It was a stupid decision, and amateur decision and it was totally unnecessary. After the safety meeting we had on Friday following the incident in Moscow it’s even more bizarre.

“I don’t understand why the organisation put riders in this situation. I just hope the race organisers enjoyed the coffee they were drinking, because they can’t have been watching the session.”

Sykes wasn’t the only rider that thought the decision was wrong with the majority of top riders confused as to why the session was stopped.

The main reason for the disgruntlement was that every rider had posted a fast lap with the best tyres they had available.

There were only four minutes remaining and it seems highly unlikely that anyone would have improved their respective lap time.

The decision means that John Hopkins 2011 best lap of the circuit remains.
