Knight wins Tough One

David Knight won the KTM Tough One ’06 Enduro event on Saturday, January 21, 2006.

The KTM Enduro Factory Team Fairoli rider is the reigning FIM Enduro 3 World Champion and an AMA Endurocross title winner. To help even the race up, Knight had to sprint 300 metres up a steep hill to get to his bike as the others started. From the rear of the 30-rider Premier class, he took the lead after just 30 minutes, and completing 17 laps for the win, finishing one full lap ahead of his nearest rival.

This was Knight’s second victory at the event, claiming a £500 prize for leading the race at the halfway stage, and £1000 for winning the race. The second hour of the race took place in darkness, which troubled some rivals, but Knight was able to ease off to make sure of a win from Wayne Braybrook and Euan McConnell.

“I heard the bikes start and thought the race had started and ran up the hill to get to my bike, but it was just riders warming up their bikes. I had to walk back down the hill and then run back up again when it stared. I was exhausted by the time I had run to my bike.” said Knight. “I was lucky to get going ahead of the Expert and Clubman riders. I couldn’t really get going until the third of fourth lap because I was in among so many riders. My rear wheel jammed on one lap, I think I must have had a rock stuck in my rear wheel.”
“I know my speed is good so I’m looking forward to the Genoa Indoor Enduro and Hell’s Gate. The atmosphere around the track was great, there were loads of spectators dotted all over the place. Everything was spot on, it was a great event.”
