British 250cc hopeful Eugene Laverty will line up on the fourth row of the grid for Sunday’s race at Donington aboard his LCR Honda.
The 21-year-old from Ballymena posted a qualifying time of 1.34.489, two seconds off the pole lap of Alex De Angelis.
The San Marino Master Aprilia rider continued his good weekend form to take pole position ahead of championship leader and defending champ Jorge Lorenzo.
The pair were split by just over four tenths of a second with De Angelis’ lap of 1..32.391 being good enough to put him at the top of the field.
Surprise qualifier of the session was Spaniard Julian Simon on the Repsol Honda who came from virtually nowhere in any of the previous sessions to leap up to third in front of this mornings fastest man Alvaro Bautista and KTM’s Mika Kallio.
Andrea Dovizioso dropped down the pecking order to fifth from provisional second yesterday and is joined on the second row by Marco Simoncelli and Hector Barbera.
