The Ducati 1098 has won the first round of the Superstock 1000 Cup at Donington in its first appearance on the World racing scene.

Niccolo Canepa took the win for the Ducati Xerox Junior Team, the same team he rode for last year in Superstock 600’s with the 749.

Canepa looked certain to clinch third until Michelle Pirro dived underneath Ayrton Badovini at the Melbourne Loop, only to lose the front mid corner and take the pair out.

Three laps in to the race an incident, again at Melbourne Loop, involving three riders caused the race to be red flagged and reduced from 12 laps to 8 for the restart.

Brit wildcard Adam Jenkinson missed the restart after crashing with another rider at Foggy’s Esses – the victim, Italian Leonardo Biliotti showed his displeasure at being taken out by kicking out Jenkinson, who was trying to pick his bike out of the gravel, earning him a fine of £500 from the FIM.
